(Project) Art for Graphic Novel.

A set of illustrations for a graphic novel book where I used fairly simple 3D applications to get the work done. I enjoy 3D work but it is time and cost is more challenging.

One Cosmos was a partnership between Joe Firmage, an Internet entrepreneur, Web visionary, and former CEO of USWeb, a $3B company at its peak, and Ann Druyan, a science writer and widow of astronomer Carl Sagan, who co-wrote the PBS series Cosmos with Sagan and later co-produced the 1997 film Contact, starring Jodie Foster. One Cosmos was to be a science-based education and entertainment portal using advanced graphics and other innovative Web capabilities. The inspiration, according to Firmage, came from Sagan’s reference in Cosmos to an Encyclopedia Galactica—a term borrowed from Isaac Asimov—referring to a fictional repository of universal knowledge. Approximately $11M in venture capital was spent before One Cosmos was terminated by its Silicon Valley financial backers during the Internet bubble collapse of 2000.

(Project) NASA ALS 1988-1989

Contract projects for Advanced Life Support Division at NASA AMES RESEARCH CENTER in Mountain View. Working directly with scientists and engineers developing technology. Visualization for many projects demonstrating actual use for funding and congressional budget oversight. Projects spanned several experiments and projects, including new Space Suit Technology, Orbital Crop Growth Systems, Mars Transit Systems and departmental schematics and slide graphics. Work performed with conventional illustration, typography and technical drawing methods.

(Project) "The Clandestine Cookie Jar"

3D Illustration

We planned an expedition to photograph the eclipse in May 2012 and created a poster from select photos showing the progression of the eclipse. Photographed in Nevada at center line along the eclipse. I then added a central Mayan calendar and designed the elements for border and overall design, including a beautiful NASA image for the background. This was a personal project for fun, joining my interests for astronomy, graphics, fine arts and illustration.
